As many of you are aware the Old Fredericktown Cemetery on Columbus Road at Oak Street, next the the Fredericktown Local Schools Administrative Building, is an eyesore an in horrible condition with broken, damaged, leaning and misplaced stones.
I have recently met with Mayor Jerry Day and Village Administrator Bruce Snell and requested permission to form a committee of volunteers to assist me in the process of revitalizing the cemetery. I received the authorization to form the committee, but was told it's not likely the Village would be able to assist financially.
As a current Pike Township Trustee, I do have some experience with cemeteries as I'm responsible for 2 within our township. We recently spent $3000.00 on repairing 13 stones that we could not repair ourselves. Repairing stones is expensive, but I believe it's our duty and responsibility. The benefit we have in the township, is having a Cemetery Levy.
Now I need your help. I'm looking for volunteers that can assist me with the manual labor, provide Ideas, suggestion, opinions and have the fund raising skills that will be necessary to make the revitalization of the cemetery successful. I would like to setup a meeting in January 2017 to meet with those of you who are willing to assist and wish to discuss this further. I'm reaching out to you now to gauge the interest in this project. Please reply to me if your interested in being involved and/or share this email with anyone who may have an interest in this project.
I can promise you two things, this will be overwhelming, but a rewarding task!
